FREE Direct Push Email

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ok this is a great tuorial writen by wideawake from ppcgeeks. i personal use this server for my ppc-6700 and havent had a problem with it. the benifts of using this instead of pooling. is it only connects to the server when u recive a email. instaed of checking every x mins. which will help with battery life. u can also foward your gmail which i do without a problem.

1. Go and sign up for an account via this link http://live.mail2web.com/

2. Once you have signed up then take your ppc and go to start/programs/activsync/menu in the bottom left corner/ now select configure server

3. In the server address box put in exchange.mail2web.com and check the box that says this server requires and encrypted (SSL) connection.

4. Hit next in the user name box put your username@mail2web.com, password, and in the domain box put ad2. You can go to advanced to setup if u want it to replace item on device and an option for event logging. You dont have to mess with these settings unless you want to.

5. Click next and select whatever you would like the device to sync with the exchange server. I sync everything cause if Im out and about and I have troubles I can hard reset and sync my contacts, calendar, email, and tasks right on the spot.

6. Click finish, now go to menu/schedule/ in the peak and off peak boxes select as items arrive, now set the other setting to how you want.

7. Youre DONE! Enjoy your new direct push mail.

NOTE: I recommend this service for people that live in an EVDO coverage until they fix the pinging. Cause when in a 1x coverage area it pings the server every 60 seconds just to keep the connection alive. And if youre in a nonEVDO area this will cause you to miss calls all the time. Hopefully they will fix this soon. Supposedly they are working on this.

LMK if u need help. also this will work with all smartphones.

Maybe they both work, but this is copy/pasted from the mail2web support page.....

ActiveSync Settings for Windows Mobile 2003 or 5.0
Server name mobile.exchange.mail2web.com
User name (myname)@mail2web.com
Domain* ad2

ActiveSync Settings for Windows Mobile 6
Server name mobile.exchange.mail2web.com
User name (myname)_mail2web.c
Domain* ad2
* In some Windows Mobile 6 Devices the domain is not required. Please leave the domain field blank if it prevents you from properly entering the User name.

But I dont know as I am getting a support code error when I try to sync with either one..... I'm already talking about it in another thread to not crap this one......

might be a dumb question, but since this has sort of a 'constant connection' with the email server, is it going to chew up bandwidth?

i've only got a 4mb/month plan, just wondering if this is a bad idea, not because of the volume of emails I'd get, just due to the nature of push email....set it up and it works great by the way!

naw only if you do a lot of downloading of attachments and all since this uses the same style as the blackberry. you should be fine though and glad that you got it to work.

Was able to set this up perfectly...only question now is since I am in Canada (read: crappy data plan of only 4mb/month) is this kind of email going to eat up a lot of bandwidth because of the 'push' technology?

Thanks for the help!

Im trying to set this up with my school email account. I did what was said in the thread and I cant get it ti synch. Its been at synchronizing for the last 5 minutes. Am I supposed to do it a different way? Thanks.

naw bro you should be straight and you know that they are offering it for 7 bux a month unlimited now dont you.

your school's e-mail should have settings somewhere as to how to forward all mail coming into that account directly to your web2mail account, it is usually very straightforward.

edit: sry guys...i somehow was able to post this message, but when I tried a regular reply to ask a question, it said it had to be approved by a mod...so you've probably got the same message in there from me twice, again, sorry 'bout that.

Could anyone comment on how Direct Push Email affects bandwidth usage? I live in Canada so we have relatively crappy data plans up here...I've only got 4mb a month, so I am slightly worried that using Direct Push might eat up a lot of bandwidth constantly checking for new emails, but my understanding of the technology is that the server only sends messages to my mobile device as they come in, so by that logic it would actually seem to me to be more bandwidth efficient than POP3 which was constantly checking say every 30 minutes or so (depending on what you set it to).

Any advice would be appreciated, and thanks for this tutorial!

Windows Mobile 6 and Hotmail, MSN, Live, Office live accounts have free push email even on free mail accounts. (Does not work with Pre Microsoft Hotmail accounts though)

You can watch my video on Youtube, Search for... free push email windows mobile 6

I did it like this

On Windows mobile 6 pro phones who's carriers have not ripped out "Windows Live" services can use their Hotmail, MSN, Live, Officelive account for Free Push emails.

All you do is
start menu,
Programs,
'Windows Live" ,
then "Menu",
then "options",
"sync schedule",
set "sync frequency" to "as items arrive",
set "times" to always,
then test it out by sending yourself and email.

The Windows Mobile 6 classic edition phones without touch screens menus are a little different. With the ATT Moto Q9 (WM6 Classic) what you do is setup a new mail account and use your Hotmail, msn, live, etc username and pass, then when you are done you will magically be given similar options to set the sync schedule to "as items arrive". On the ATT Tilt (WM6 Pro) if I remember right it was like this too.

But anyway be sure to check the programs screen first for "windows live" other wise try getting to it by setting up a new email account then explore the email account options for that account and look for "sync schedule"

Last notes.. Some carriers have completely removed this intentionally, probably so that they sell the blackberries as "push email enabled devices" under more profitable contracts.

You will obviously need an active internet connection.
There is absolutely no need to modify your Hotmail, msn, live, etc account online first.
I've got it working on Sprint Mogul (WM6 Pro), Tmobile Wing (WM6 Pro), ATT Tilt (WM6 Pro), ATT Moto Q9

I am having problems getting my email pushed. I am able to connect and sync to mail2web. It syncs all my contacts but not my emails. Its also not pushing them as they arrive. When I go to the mail2web account I can log on and see my emails (which its getting from aol mail) but its not pushing them to my phone.

yeah and its set to as items arrive. is there some settins I have to mess with in the mail2web site?

no there is no settings that you have to set. but what you mean aol mail through mail2web. are you forwarding messages there or summtin. the only way that mail2web will push is if you are using your masil2web addresss during setup.

idk what to tell u but delete the sever exchange and redo it. go into mail2web.com and login, go to setting and activesync setup or something like that and follow those steps.
