I've created (just another) wifi-tethering-application for our beloved rooted-android-phones.
Yes, it's absolutely free and opensource.
The project is hosted on google-codes:

The latest version supports a very simple access-control-mechanism (whitelist of mac-addresses), status-display and a log-viewer.
