[TUTORIAL] How to Install TF3D Themes

Okay, Im putting this little tutorial together, because i am tired of coming across the same How do i install this theme question... as I know It can be different for noobs w/ the few different types of TF3d theme installations, I decided to put something together that will explain each in brief concise step by step process

I am putting this in the TF3D area, because although it is a tutorial, it may be better served here, where whoever is installing a theme will have a better oppertunity to see this... if any other staff member wishes to move it, feel free...

*first and foremost, it is always recommended that before the installation of any theme, you deativate TF3D first... you can do this by going into 'start menu> settings> today> items tab> unchecking Touch flo 3D'... all subsequent instruction provided here, are based on the fact that you have already done so...Also, this tutorial assumes that whatever them file you have downloaded and saved to your device is saved on your storage card... if it is not, you will have to adjust appropriatly*

Cabbed Themes Installation

cabbed themes are themes that come in .cab file extension format, these are the simplest, easiest and safest ways to install a theme if you find them.

1. using file explorer navigate to the downloaded .cab theme saved on your storage card
2. click to activate/run the file...
3. when prompted, choose to 'install to device'
4. Once process is done soft reset
5. reactivate touch flo 3D in your today settings

.Theme Installation

.theme installs are a bit more complicated... but still pretty simple
to Install a .theme file, you will need a couple things first.

first youll need a program called 'Diamond config tool' which you can get here. (if your having problems with installing or running the program remember to go into the program folder once installed and delete the tweaks XML file...more detail regarding that can be found in that thread.)

next you will need to create a new folder in the root of your storage card, named 'Themes'... you can do that by navigating to your storage card with file explorer, total commander or resco explorer and opening up the menu and clciking 'create new'... and name the new folder 'Themes'

now that, that is completed, your ready to begin
1. Dropp the .theme file (of the theme you wish to install) into the new Theme folder you just created
2. Open/ run the daimond config tool you downloaded
3. open the Appearance Tab
4. In the select theme the drop down list will now show whichever .theme file(s) you put into the 'Themes' folder... choose the one you wish to install and click apply
5. Save and soft reset
6. Reactivate touch flo

.Zip installations
To install these themes, the process is basically the same as installin a .theme file, with one minor change...

1. using resco explorer or total commander or even File explore (w/ the extension add on), simply rename the .zip file to .theme
2. follow the steps to installing .theme file listed above

Now your finished, provided youve followed the instructions, you should see your them install just fine after a soft reset and restarting touch flo 3D

Hope this helps... feel free to hit thnx on your way out!

Ok, I have been wanting to know but cannot seem to find it. Can I install a new theme over my custom rom? I am currently using MightyROM. And It comes with the black Telus theme. I wouldent mind using a different theme, But i dont want to overwrite anything important that was in my new rom.

I was thinking that theme's with .cab would probably not overwrite anything in my rom. but the .theme files would, considering they need the diamond RUU to run them.(i think)

thanks! Let me know please! love these forums! (first post, woo!)

you can install anything and be fine.... a cab file you can ununstall to being you back to stock and if you use a .theme file with the config tool there is an option in the config tool to restore back to stock so you will be good to go..... so get finding you some themes.... if you look at my mega post stickied in the applications area you will find an easy to download zip folder with every single one that i have found touchflo 3d theme wise and trust me there is some good ones... to see them all you have to do is go to the touchflo 3d area under the themes area from the side menu and you will find them individually.

thanks dash! appreciate it ! :) I am gonna go look for that now! I think the only thing i was worried about, was the theme slowing down my diamond or changing my pagepool after i install. I like my new speedy rom :)

BTW, Is there a way to change my pagepool AFTER i install the rom VS Before i install it? (I mean, without having to RE-flash my phone)

.theme files do not need an ruu to install, ruu is only for flashing... if you READ the tutorial of this thread your posting in, youll see that, and also links to the apps you need to install,

also as dash said, installing themes of any kind on any rom will not overwrite anything import to the rom besides the manilla files which is what makes up the theme...

As this is you first post, posting an official introduction member introduction would be good, that way the staff can get you set up with all the helpful and useful links and info that you need to know... thanks!

Don't thinkk he will be able to download from the site until he joins the member section, as a new member and these being his first post, im not sure he has...

need more specifics... what kinda issue are u having... like how to change the wall paper, the default them background isnt showing, etc? Cant help you w/o more info... also as this is the thread specifically for theme installation and your issue isnt about that, you might wanna try posting this question at the help desk or touch pro question forum, for more help...
thanks

I have installed themes, but the default backround or the backround meant for each theme is not showing. It is only black. However if I remove the Tf3d it can be seen but is overlayed in gray and barely visible almost as if it's in the backround but the tf3d interface is covering it when on. I have browsed to put in specific image(s) in today settings but still not showing. Even when I revert back to the original HTC black. Any advice?

have you tried installin/setting the wallpaper from the settings tab in tf3d? if its still not working, i suggest a hard reset

I pointed directly to wallpapers from settings tab and have even gone to wallpapers and pictures in file explorer and set as backround but they only appear if I turn TouchFlo off. Also I added a .cab theme called purple nightmare before and removed it but as long as TouchFlo is on when I use WinMob menus the highlight is still purple and some of the interfaces like the onscreen phone dialer are still purple. Not sure what I may have done to cause this. I did a few hard resets, still same problem.

hard resets or soft resets? there is a difference... a hard reset will wipe ur memory complety and restore it back to manufacturers settings... a soft reset will simply reboot your device... did you get the hard reset warning when u performed the hard reset?

I did hard resets by way of the power button on top and got the device shutting off warning and turned it back on manually. I find out how to add a wallpaper to the home screen in TF3D. Guess I'm fuzzy on adding it to all tabs in touchflo. I still have the phone dialer and winmo menus highlighted in purple from adding Purple Nightmare Theme even after removing it. Interesting enough when I try to Remove the Purple Nightmare .tsk it says it is unable to completely remove it. I think my phn now reads it as a permanent part of TF3D. Not sure how to reset to the original manila or whatever is causing that.

okay... lemme try and break this down as simple and quick as possible

1. that wasnt a hard reset you described... that was a power off... do a search its been posted multiple times on how to hard reset the touch pro and diamond

2.To change wallpaer you slide to settings tab in TF3d (not the settings menu) and click the wallpaper option.. follow onscreen instructions from there

3. to apply background to all tabs, u need the background 4 all tab installed on your device... you can find that in taylorAMJ's tweaks, cab, and hacks thread

4. If you installed a theme either manually or in any of the methods described in this tutorial and after uninstall it is common to not have everything removed from manilla files... try uninstalling again using an in depth method like Sktools (which you can also find here at AMJ) or using the diamond config tool, click the appearances tab, and click restore default... and it will restore you default htc tf3d manilla files

and you are going to settings on touchflo from there right? it sounds like you are going through file explorer and jsut selecting them as your wallpaper........ you can change the transparency that way describing what you may be running into... also what rom are you running? if you are running a stock sprint rom you will ned munbackground4allpages otherwise you wont get it to work.
