fyi, this is NOT a spam site. to keep your uploads from being reported and removed from rapidshare, or for that matter any upload site, people use "protection" sites. linksave is that kind of site. goto the link and you'll see a text box in the middle of the screen with "password" above it. enter the text in the box and click next. the next page is rapid share links. i think there's 10 links total. once you download all the links un-rar them and you'll have a 1gb or so entire usa map file which you drop into the garmin folder as your map. just copy and paste.
Great, I'll check this out. Let me know how it goes with the install of the maps Kaos uploaded and which u think would be best to use.

so you mean you installed the unlocked map from linksave links? if so then your good on the maps. the freebase map is again a place holder and doesn't do anything but allow the program to run.

it's supposed to. the files are hosted on rapidshare, where you need to download them from.

in the middle of the screen is an "anti spam" number you have to enter into the text box to get to the rapidshare links.

ok, thats what it's suppposed to do, it's pretty much normal

dude, seriously....................are you kidding????............ the map file is at least 1gb and usually split into 200mb files, your phone CAN'T handle files that large. why don't you use a computer?????? i'm confused as to why you would want to do that.....................I got nothin for that.

good luck with that.

ok it's all good but i think you missunderstood me i am using my phone as a modem not down loading it to my phone and as far as download files and there sizes i have down load everything else except tese maps so dont know why i'm having this problem but it says something about the ip address that my pc has asigned is something or this file will download to slow but anyway ive downloaded way bigger files in the recent/distant past also i can not get comcast cable where i'm at right now or i would but until then my cellphone has kept me up and running so like i said i will get to a stronger connection and try again but thanks again and i will get back to you guys and let you know what happens from a dsl speed or better

PS thanks to all the staff and users at AMJ for wishing me a happy 35th birthday hahahahaha! thanks D/\SH for the MOD it still runs like a dream!

OK, so I went to that site, got the map, put it in my card. The problem is that I dont seem to have unlocked any maps and I'm not sure how to unlock. I followed the instructions in the first thread and went to mapinstall and tried to select all the states, but that isnt working.
How exactly do I unlock the maps?

through mapinstall on your pc. with the keygen and detailed instructions provided by me and countless others.

Thanks, dude, I have been trying to do what the "countless" others have suggested, but it isn't working. I have followed all the instructions, but they're a bit confusing b/c some of the steps suggested do not work. Yes, it's possible I'm doing something wrong, but I got to the point were I try to run Mapinstall and the software says its going to unlock "garmin City Navigator North America NT 2010.1"
When I try to "select all states and provinces" like instruction #8 says, nothing gets selected.
That's where I am stuck.

it should only ask to unlock 2010 maps not by state.their is your first mistake. it will unlock morth america from there you just select what you want select tools and transfer to device...you have to be connected via usb cable

I am connected via USB. The instructions say:
"8. Run MapInstall. Select all states and provinces. Sit back and wait.
That's it." So IDK how that is my "first mistake."
When I run Mapinstall I get a box that says:
"the following map products are currently locked, City Navigator North America NT 2010.0."
When I click "next" I go to
"Find Device"
"Garmin Mobile XT"
So I click "Storage Card" under "Available memory locations." Then next: That takes me to a map of the USA which says: Instructions: Select a map region to load it by clicking it. To deselect, click it again."
Then nothing happens

I am gonna throw my computer. Ok windows vista can not find this anywhere. I have done this on two other phones (old pc) with out a problem but i can not find this

7. Open Windows Explorer
and select your GPS.
In the directory Garmin, delete gmapprom.img or gmapsupp.img
(should be about a 1 GB file).
You can backup this file first in case something goes wrong.

please help thanks

Sprint Nav is nice, but like GoogleMaps or Bing, it requires a data signal AND GPS reception to work. Go to an area with no data & you just lost your map.

Garmin, Tom Tom & the like store the maps on your device. All you need is GPS reception & you're good.

Sprint Nav is a much smaller app with fewer features. As far as navigating goes, generally, you won't really miss those features because they'll be duplicated in other apps on your phone. But, it's still nice to have all the goodies in one spot.

A plus for Sprint Nav, Bing, & GoogleMaps is that their maps are constantly being updated automatically. For updated Garmin maps, you have to go through the map updating process, which we have made perfectly clear isn't so simple.

I've used both types of nav software extensively, and both have their pluses. For me, though, while I keep Garmin on my Touch Pro, if I had to do with only one, I'd go with Bing. The maps for the Atlanta, GA area are more up to date and more thorough than any of the others... Might be different in your area, of course.

garmin simply is better cause it has commercial routing. i use it daily...as far as updating after downloading takes me 1hr to completely update.. the only time i spend is pressing yes overwrite.lol so like aminute is interactive...and as far as getting the update....AMJ knows im on it...i usually update within first few week if not days of a leak.

Well, with all due respect, it's better for you since it has commercial routing. For folks who don't need that, the feature is useless.

That being said, I think Garmin blows Sprint Nav out of the water. I wasn't trying to say Sprint Nav was better... just clarifying for iTouch24 some of the differences.

If I were to have only one of each TYPE of GPS (that being constant connection like GoogleMaps/Bing or maps based like Garmin,) I'd have Bing & Garmin. I could go into why I like Garmin over Tom Tom & iGo, but that'd be a mouthful.
